To add a custom map to Netreo and customize it, follow the steps below.
Add a Custom Map to Netreo
- Log in to Netreo as a user with any access level.
- From the main menu, select Quick Views >> Map View >> Custom to open the Custom Map page.
- In the EXISTING CUSTOM MAPS panel, click the Add a Map button to open the ADD CUSTOM MAP page.
- In the ADD NEW CUSTOM MAP panel:
- In the MAP NAME field, enter a name for your custom map. This is the name by which your map will be listed in the EXISTING CUSTOM MAPS panel.
- (Optional) In the MAP NOTES field enter any notes you wish to include about your custom map. (These notes do not appear anywhere in Netreo other than in this dialog.)
- In the MAP FILE field, click the Browse button to select an image file from your computer to upload to Netreo as the custom map image. (This file may be no larger than 2 MB. Only .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .bmp file formats are accepted.)
- Click the Add Custom Map button. Your custom map image is uploaded to Netreo and prepared for use. You are then sent to the EDIT CUSTOM MAP page.
- On the EDIT CUSTOM MAP page, you may now configure your map. (If you are not a user of type Admin or SuperAdmin, you must add pins and connections now. Users of type User and Power User may not edit custom maps once you return to the Custom Map page.)
- (Optional) At the top left of the map, you may select to show or hide the map labels.
- (Optional) To the right of the map label configuration, you may select to fit or fill the map to the current browser window size.
- (Optional) At the top right of the map, in the NAME field, you may edit the name of the custom map.
- (Optional) In the USER PARTITION field, use the pull-down menu to select a user partition to restrict map viewing to. (No user outside of the selected partition will be able to view this particular custom map.)
- Pins may now be assigned to your map (a map with no pins has no functionality). A pin may be assigned to represent a managed device, site, or business workflow.
- For each pin you wish to add to your map:
- Left-click on the map location where you wish your pin to be placed. An unassigned map pin now appears on that spot.
- Left-click the newly placed pin to open the Pin Properties pop-up dialog.
- In the "Assigned to" panel, click the Change Assignment button to assign the pin.
- Select Device, Business Workflow or Site to see a list of appropriate items to select from.
- Once you've selected the pin assignment, click the Save This Pin button.
- Once all of your pins are placed and assigned, you may now add connections between the assigned pins. (Only managed devices may have connections created between them.)
- For each pin you wish to connect to another pin:
- Left-click the desired pin to open the Pin Properties pop-up dialog.
- For each connection that you wish to add to this pin:
- In the "Connected to" panel, click the Add Connection button. (The current pin is the start point of the connection.)
- In the pop-up dialog that appears:
- In the ENDS field, use the pull-down menu to select the pin that should be the end point of the connection.
- In the LINE STYLE field, use the pull-down menu to select the connection line style (solid, dotted, dashed).
- In the LINE LABEL field, click to switch the connection label to ON or OFF (connection labels are similar to pin labels).
- In the THRESHOLD field, use the pull-down menu to select the threshold check whose status the connection will display.
- When you have finished configuring your connection, click the Create Connection button.
- When you are finished adding connections to this pin, click the Save This Pin button.
- When you are finished editing your map, click the "Save this map" icon at the top right of the map to save all changes.
- You may now navigate away from the EDIT CUSTOM MAP page. (See Map Configuration below.)
Map Configuration
For users of type User or Power User, you will only have one opportunity to configure your custom map (add pins/connections, etc.) when it is first uploaded. Once you leave the EDIT CUSTOM MAP page you will no longer be able to edit that map in any way. Only users of type Admin or SuperAdmin may edit custom maps after they are uploaded and initially configured.
Edit an Existing Custom Map
- Log in as a user with either the Admin or SuperAdmin access level.
- From the main menu, select Quick Views >> Map View >> Custom to open the Custom Map page.
- In the EXISTING CUSTOM MAPS panel, locate the map you wish to edit and click its edit icon in the ACTIONS column.
- On the EDIT CUSTOM MAP page, you may now configure your map. For possible configuration options, see step 5 and later in the Add a Custom Map to Netreo section above.
- When you are finished editing your map, click the "Save this map" icon at the top right of the map to save all changes.
- Click the "View all maps" icon at the top right of the map to return to the Custom Map page.
