Article summary

Description

The Business Workflows Overview dashboard widget provides a visual representation of the "health" status of business workflows, allowing you to see the relative impact of failed monitoring checks on those workflows. It may take this widget up to 5 minutes to update its display after a change of health status has occurred.

Display Mode

This widget has two display modes, wide and narrow. The widget automatically chooses the mode based on the layout of the dashboard it is placed in. Narrow mode arranges the display vertically instead of horizontally. The following images show the wide and narrow display modes, respectively.

Display Options

The widget can be displayed using one of two indicator styles: Thermometer or rainbow, as seen below. The style selected affects all indicators.

Components

This widget provides two data displays based on the "health" of business workflows. The indicators in these displays visualize the relative percentages of active host availability, service and threshold checks on devices within each group that are in the OK, WARNING and CRITICAL states. The percentage number displayed below the indicator reflects the OK percentage.

Groups whose scores fall below the DEGRADED THRESHOLD setting in the group's score configuration will have their names displayed in yellow along with a DEGRADED label when displayed in thermometer style. When displayed in rainbow style, the background of the group graphic will turn yellow, with no additional labeling.

Groups whose scores fall below the FAILED THRESHOLD setting in the group's score configuration will have their names displayed in red along with a FAILED label when displayed in thermometer style. When displayed in rainbow style, the background of the group graphic will turn red, with no additional labeling.

Aggregate Business Workflows

The Aggregate Business Workflows panel is at the top of the widget. It shows the "health" scores of the aggregate business workflows selected to be displayed in the widget. See Strategic Group (Device Group) for an explanation of what the score means.

Aggregate business workflows are displayed larger and with more prominence than the individual workflows displayed in the Business Workflows panel (below). A badge at the top right indicates how many aggregate business workflows are in this panel.

Click the name of an aggregate group or its indicator to open a pop-up dialog displaying the individual business workflows within the aggregate group. Then click the name of a contained business workflow or its indicator to open its dashboard.

Configuration

Business Workflows Overview widgets are added to a dashboard on the Customize Dashboards page (Administration > Users > Custom Dashboards).

Multiple widgets of this type may be added to a dashboard, each with their own configuration.

When adding a Business Workflows Overview widget to a dashboard, there are several options that need to be configured before the widget can be used. After adding the widget to a dashboard, save the dashboard and then click the gear icon button on the widget to open the options pop-up dialog.

The fields and their descriptions are outlined below.

  • GRAPH TYPE
Select either "Thermometers" or "Rainbows" to select the display style of the widget.
  • VIEW
Select which group will be displayed in the widget. The available choices are:
    • All
Displays all active business workflows and aggregate business workflows.
    • Just Degraded
Displays only groups that currently meet or exceed the DEGRADED condition, as set in a group's score configuration. Note that each group may have its own values for being considered DEGRADE.
    • Custom Group

    • Custom Aggregated Group
When this option is selected, the SELECT A GROUP field (below) becomes available. Only the aggregate business workflows selected in that field will display in the widget.
  • SELECT A GROUP
