Create a Device Template
To create a new device template in Netreo follow the steps below.
- Log in to Netreo as a user with the SuperAdmin access level.
- Go to the main menu and select Administration > Templates to open the Device Templates Administration page.
- Select Add New Template.
- In the TEMPLATE NAME field enter a descriptive name for your new device template. This name is used to identify the template during assignment to devices.
- In the WINDOWS DOMAIN field enter the name of your Windows domain, if applicable.
- In the USERNAME and PASSWORD fields enter the set of credentials used to access the devices in your network, if applicable. (The down-level logon name format may be used in the USERNAME field.)
- If using SNMP to access devices:
- In the SNMP READ ONLY or SNMP READ/WRITE fields enter the SNMP community string required to access devices in your network, if applicable.
- In the ENABLE PASSWORD field enter your enable password, if used.
- In the SNMP VERSION field, select the version of SNMP that Netreo should switch to when authenticating by SNMP to the devices to which this template is applied.
- (Selecting No Change means Netreo continues to use the version it was already using to access a given device before this template was applied to it.)
- In the AUTOMATICALLY DISABLE DEVICE field, enter the number of hours a host device must be "down" (not available on the network) before Netreo disables monitoring for it.
- (A device disabled in this way is periodically pinged for availability. If it comes back "up" monitoring is automatically re-enabled for it and polling resumes. All previously stored data for the device remains intact.)
- If using SNMPv3:
- In the V3 USERNAME field enter the username to be used for SNMP access.
- If using authentication:
- In the V3 PASSWORD field enter your authentication password, if required.
- In the V3 AUTH ALGORITHM field select the algorithm to use for SNMPv3 authentication.
- If using privacy:
- In the V3 PRIVACY PASSWORD field enter your privacy password.
- In the V3 PRIVACY ALGORITHM field select the algorithm to use for privacy encryption.
- In the RENOTIFY INTERVAL field enter the number of minutes Netreo should wait before resending alert notifications about a "host down" incident if that incident is not acknowledged.
- Set the ENABLE AUTO AUTHENTICATION switch to the desired setting.
- ON allows Netreo to utilize the credentials in this device template when attempting to add newly discovered devices.
- OFF prevents Netreo from utilizing the credentials in this device template when attempting to add newly discovered devices.
- In the AUTO CONFIGURATION field, select the desired action for auto-configuration rules when devices affected by this template are repolled.
- No Change causes no changes to be made to the AUTO-CONFIGURATION setting of the devices to which this template is applied. (This field is found in the advanced options of the Main tab in the administrative view of the Device dashboard.)
- Run on every discovery poll causes the AUTO-CONFIGURATION setting of the devices to which this template is applied to be set to Run Every Repoll.
- Click the Save button.
Once a new template has been created, you may then:
- upload the device template to a cloud library
- duplicate the device template
- edit the template
- delete the template
by selecting the appropriate icon in its ACTIONS column.
Editing Device Templates
When editing device templates it is important to note that after you have finished making your changes you must follow the steps in Re-apply templates after making changes in order to propagate those changes to all affected devices.
Note: If you are creating a device template to store device login credentials, it is recommended to stop here, and not add any additional sections.
If you wish your new device template to provide more than just device access credentials, then you must add (as desired):
