Article summary

Only users with the SuperAdmin access level may deploy and manage service engines.

See Service Engines to learn about service engines and their use.

Firewall Rules
When deploying a service engine for use with a Netreo SaaS tenant, the deployed virtual appliance must be able to communicate outbound to the internet on port TCP/443.
Virtual Appliance IP Address
The appliance installs with a default private IP address of 192.168.252.2 assigned to it. If you wish to use a different IP, you may choose to change it either from the VM console when deploying the appliance, or from within the setup wizard when first logging in to the appliance.

Procedure

To deploy your first service engine for a Netreo SaaS deployment, follow the steps below. If, after deploying the initial service engine, you wish to deploy additional service engines, see Deploy Additional Service Engines (Netreo SaaS).)

  1. Deploy the service engine virtual appliance (downloaded in the SaaS Tenant Setup section of the Netreo SaaS Quick Setup Guide) using the virtual environment of your choice by following the instructions in Deploy a Netreo Virtual Appliance.
    • Once the VM is running, do not proceed to the setup wizard. Return to these instructions.
  2. Go to the IP address of the deployed appliance in a browser and log in using the default username/password: administrator/administrator.
  3. On the options screen that appears, select Set up as Remote Collector/Poller.
  4. Complete the steps in the Create Remote Collector Wizard as follows:
    1. Step 1 - Enter your desired network configuration and select Save and Continue.
      • You may choose to change the IP address of the virtual appliance in this step.
      • This information will be pre-filled if you chose to configure the IP address via the console while deploying the appliance.
      • It is recommended to include an NTP server address to ensure that the appliance server time is kept correct.
    2. Step 2 - Update the product, if required.
    3. Step 3 - Select Cloud from the drop-down menu, enter your API key and select Create. (Do not fill in the IP ADDRESS field.)
      • The service engine appliance immediately communicates with your Netreo SaaS tenant and automatically associates the appliance with the service engine you created in the SaaS Tenant Setup section above.
  5. Your are taken to the System Diagnostics page of the service engine appliance. If you wish, you may test the appliance's connection to your SaaS tenant by selecting Test Connection to Netreo Cloud. If no errors are reported, your connection is working properly.
  6. You may now log out of the appliance.

The service engine will begin discovering the devices in your network environment and report them to your SaaS tenant. It will likely take at least 15 minutes before network devices begin appearing in your SaaS tenant for monitoring.

Remember that if you changed the service engine appliance IP address in the setup wizard, you will need to use the new address if you wish to log back in to the appliance.
