Device Templates Administration Page

This page is where device templates are created and managed. It is only available to users with the SuperAdmin access level, and can be found by navigating to Administration > Templates from the main menu. See below for page features.

Page Buttons

• Add New Template - Opens the Device Template Create page (see below).
• Configure Template Usage - This drop-down selector opens additional admin pages where device templates may be assigned to the members of the selected group. Selecting "Device" opens a page where you may assign device templates to managed devices en masse.
• Rediscover Devices and Apply Templates - Opens the Repoll Devices page, where selected managed devices can be scheduled for a discovery poll. Any device templates assigned to the selected devices will be (re)applied to those devices.
• Enable Template Usage - Opens the Enable Use Templates page, which allows you to enable/disable device template usage for managed devices en masse.
• Device Templates Cloud Library - Opens the Device Template Cloud Library page (or Overview cloud library for Overview client Netreo appliances) where preconfigured device templates can be downloaded.
• Template Released Report - Opens the Unlocked Threshold Report page, which displays threshold checks on individual managed devices that have been set by device templates, but have had their settings manually unlocked and overridden.
• Baseline Templates - Opens the Template Baseline page. This tool helps administrators tune their device template settings to generate the fewest alarms while maintaining the highest reliability.
• Functional Groups Template Order - Opens the Functional Groups Template Order page, where you can re-arrange the order in which device templates are applied to devices in functional groups. Drag the bars to the left of the functional group name to move the group within the order.

Device Templates Table

This table displays all of the device templates that currently exist in Netreo. The table columns are as follows:

• TEMPLATE NAME - The name of the device template.
• TYPE - The number of device types that currently have the respective device template assigned to them.
• SUBTYPE - The number of device subtypes that currently have the respective device template assigned to them.
• SITE - The number of site device groups that currently have the respective device template assigned to them.
• CATEGORY - The number of category device groups that currently have the respective device template assigned to them.
• FUNCTIONAL GROUP - The number of functional group strategic groups that currently have the respective device template assigned to them.
• DEVICE - The number of managed devices that currently have the respective device template assigned directly to them.
• ACTIONS - The actions available for managing the respective device template. Each icon is explained in the table below.

Icon	Description
	Upload - For uploading a device template to a cloud library. An on-premise Netreo appliance or Overview appliance will upload the device template to the Netreo cloud library, where it will then appear for download by anyone with a Netreo deployment (pending Netreo approval). An Overview client Netreo appliance will upload the device template to the cloud library of its Overview, where it will then be available for immediate download to any of the client Netreo appliances of that Overview.
	Copy - Duplicates the device template and adds it to the device templates table with "Copy of ..." prepended to the original template name.
	Edit - Opens the Device Template Edit page (see below).
	Delete - Deletes the template from Netreo and removes it from the list. (Does not apply to the "Default" device template, which cannot be deleted.)

Device Template Create Page

  This page is where you will initially configure a new device template. When you first create a new device template, it is empty of additional options. Only authentication information is supplied in the initial creation of the template, in case you wish to use the template only as storage for authentication information. The fields and their meanings are explained under the section Device Template Edit Page (below). Open this page by selecting Add New Template on the Device Templates Administration page.

Device Template Edit Page

Existing device templates may be edited by locating them in the device templates table (see above) and selecting the edit icon in its respective ACTIONS column.

Any aspect of a device template may be edited, including its name (except for the "Default" template--its name cannot be changed). Once a template has been edited to your satisfaction, select the arrow icon at the top of the Authentication Credentials panel to return to the main administration page. Don't forget to repoll the affected devices (using the Rediscover Devices and Apply Templates button on the Device Templates Administration page) so that your changes will take effect.

Authentication Credentials Panel

Here can enter a name for the device template and any authentication credentials you would like to include. The fields and their meanings are explained below. Any changes made in this panel (including the template name) require you to select Update before making changes to any other sections of the template—otherwise the changes made here will be lost.

• TEMPLATE NAME - This field specifies the name of this device template. Enter a name that will help you identify the purpose of this template.
• WINDOWS DOMAIN - If you've created an Active Directory service account for Netreo to use for device polling, enter the domain name here.
• USERNAME - The username for the above Active Directory account. (The down-level logon name format may be used in this field.)
• PASSWORD - The password for the above Active Directory account.
• SNMP READ ONLY - For SNMP-based device access, enter your read-only SNMP community string here.
• SNMP READ/WRITE - For SNMP-based device access, enter your read/write SNMP community string here.
• ENABLE PASSWORD - On network devices that use a second level of authentication to issue configuration commands, enter the password to enable with here. This field is required for configuration management. If you use a username that is pre-enabled (i.e., logs in at the highest level of device access without further authentication), leave this field blank. Do not use this field when configuring Windows devices.
• SNMP VERSION - This field allows you to specify the SNMP version to use for communication with the managed device this template is applied to. The options are v1, v2c, v3, and "No Change". The "No Change" option leaves the version currently used for a device unchanged.
• AUTOMATICALLY DISABLE DEVICE - This field specifies a timer (in hours) for automatic device disabling. Any managed device that has been down for this many hours will automatically have polling disabled for it.
• V3 USERNAME - For SNMPv3-based device polling, enter a valid account username here.
• V3 PASSWORD - The password for the above username.
• V3 AUTH ALGORITHM - CentOS 6 options: MD5, SHA. CentOS 8 options: MD5, SHA, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512.
• V3 PRIVACY PASSWORD - Enter your SNMPv3 privacy password here.
• V3 PRIVACY ALGORITHM - CentOS 6 options: DES, 3DES, AES128. CentOS 8 options: DES, 3DES, AES128, AES192. 
• RENOTIFY INTERVAL - This field sets the renotification interval (in minutes) of the host availability service check for the device this template is applied to.
• ENABLE AUTO AUTHENTICATION - This field sets whether or not Netreo will try to use the credentials specified in this device template when attempting to access a device.
• AUTO CONFIGURATION - This field allows you to specify the auto configuration behavior for the device to which this template is applied. The options are "No Change" and "Run On Every Discovery Poll". "No Change" leaves the behavior currently assigned to a device unchanged. "Run On Every Discovery Poll" sets the device autodiscovery behavior to "Run Every Repoll". See Auto-Configuration for more information.

Template Components Panel

This panel is where you assign the various non-authentication components to the template. Changes made in the Template Components panel are saved and applied immediately, and no further action is required after editing. The tables and their contents are explained below.

Host Alert

This table displays a list of the host alert contacts included in this device template along with their escalation tier. Click the plus button to add a new host alert contact to the table. Note: Host alert contacts are added to devices cumulatively, and don't override other host alert contacts.

Service Checks

This table displays a list of the service checks included in this template. Click the plus button to add a new service check to the table.

Thresholds

This table displays a list of the threshold checks included in this template, along with their settings. Click the plus button to add a new threshold check to the table.

To see a list of which device types are using any given threshold check in the table, select the Configured Device Types icon in its ACTIONS column. A pop-up dialog shows all of the device types to which that threshold check has been added and what statistic it is collecting and monitoring.

Logging Rules

This table displays the logging rules included in this template. Click the plus button to add a new logging rule to the table. Note: Logging rules are added to devices cumulatively, and don't override other logging rules.

Configuration Management Ruleset

This table displays the device configuration management rules included in this template. Click the plus button to add a new configuration rule to the table.

Template Usage Panel

This panel displays where this device template is assigned. (Note: The "Default" template is applied globally to all managed devices using device templates, and should not be manually assigned to anything.) The ACTIONS column has a single action available: Edit. For the Type and Subtype entries, clicking the edit icon will open the configuration page for the respective device type or subtype. For the Site, Category and Device entries, clicking the edit icon will open the general administration page for that item.
