Article summary

The following settings are available on the configuration page of a Netreo device type.

See Device Type/Subtype Management for instructions on creating and editing device types.

Device types are created and managed in Polling Administration (Administration > Change Devices > Edit Device Types/Subtype in the main menu).

Also see Device Types/Subtypes for information about device types.

Basic Information

  • TYPE TITLE - Specify the name used to identify this device type in various Netreo configuration settings.
  • Enabled - Enable or disable this device type for use in Netreo. This field provides an option to deleting device types that you don't wish to use.
  • Looking Glass - Enable or disable Looking Glass functionality for managed devices using this device type.
  • Filter Uncommon Interface - When enabled, any detected interface matching the following conditions will not be included for performance monitoring for managed devices  using this device type.
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = DS1 Controller
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = E1 Controller
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = DS3 Controller
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = Voice Controller
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = Voice Dial Peer
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = Failover Interface
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = Null Interface
    • Vendor = Cisco, Type = Virtual interface
    • Type = Software Loopback Interface
    • Type = Voice FXO/FXS Controller
    • Type = CEF Sub-interface
  • TYPE IMAGE - Specify the icon used to display managed devices of this type in dashboards and maps. Also determines the layout and performance data shown on the Overview tab of the Device Dashboard for managed devices using this device type.
  • TEMPLATE - Specify the device template (if any) that should be automatically applied at the "device type" level of the device template hierarchy for managed devices using this device type.
  • DEFAULT SHELL FOR CLI TOOLS - Specify how Netreo will communicate with managed devices using this device type when attempting to run command line instructions on them.
  • DEFAULT BANDWIDTH OVERRIDE - Specify a bandwidth override value (in bits/s) for all managed devices using this device type. Used to compensate for inaccuracies in bandwidth graphs due to bandwidth values being reported by a device incorrectly.
  • POLLING INTERVALS - Specify how frequently Netreo polls managed devices using this device type for availability and performance data. By default, Netreo typically polls devices at 5-minute intervals. Note: Polling intervals cannot be changed for device types related to virtualization or wireless LAN controllers.
  • Automatic Type Matching (based on SysDescr OID)- The values specified in the fields below are used by Netreo to automatically assign a device type to a device when it is first onboarded.
    • LOOKUP PRECEDENT - Assigns a priority to the STRING TO MATCH field to its right. The lower the number, the higher priority the string is given for automatic type matching. This means that if STRING TO MATCH values are matched by multiple device types, the device type with the lowest LOOKUP PRECEDENT value is the type assigned to the managed device. Select the question mark icon (?) next to Automatic Type Matching (based on SysDescr OID) for a list of precedent values.
    • STRING TO MATCH - (Regex compatible) If the SysDescr for the device contains text matching this field, this device type is assigned to it when the device is onboarded.

SNMP Pollers

The tables in this section show what pollers are configured for this device type. New pollers may be added, and existing pollers may be edited or deleted.

For specific configuration settings for each poller type, see:

Polling Additional Information

  • Related Subtypes - This table shows the device subtypes that are associated with this device type. Associated subtypes may be assigned to a managed device using this device type to collect additional specialized performance data from the device. A new subtype may be created for this device type by selecting the plus icon (+). The subtypes associated with this device type may be edited by selecting the edit icon. The configuration settings for a subtype in the table may be edited by selecting its magnifying glass icon in the ACTIONS column.
  • Devices - This table shows the managed devices that currently have this device type assigned to them. The Device Dashboard for a device in the table may be opened by selecting its magnifying glass icon in the ACTIONS column.
