This tool allows a user to delete a specific service check from multiple managed devices in one action. (Despite its name in the UI - "Mass Service Deletion" - this tool does not delete services, just service checks.)
This tool is particularly useful if device templates have added service checks to your devices, but have then been removed or deleted for some reason, breaking their connection to the devices and causing them to fail to remove those service checks.
Its use is fairly straightforward, if not intuitive. To use the tool, follow the steps below.
- Log in to Netreo as a user with at least the Admin access level.
- From the main menu, select Administration >> Alerts >> Service Monitoring to navigate to the Service Monitoring page.
- Select the Mass Service Deletion button at the top of the page to navigate to the Mass Service Deletion page.
- In the Service Check Name pull-down menu, select the name of the service check you would like to delete.
- The name of a service check is shown in the top left of its configuration page, or in the Service Check Administration and Service Check Cloud Library lists (Administration >> Change Devices >> Manage Service Checks). In this example, we'll use the "Ping this host" service check.
- The name of a service check is shown in the top left of its configuration page, or in the Service Check Administration and Service Check Cloud Library lists (Administration >> Change Devices >> Manage Service Checks). In this example, we'll use the "Ping this host" service check.
- In the Select a Business Workflow pull-down menu, select a business workflowto limit the device selection only to devices in that business workflow.
- Optionally, select None to limit device selection to devices not in any business workflows, select Everything to limit device selection to devices in any workflow, or select All Devices to allow selection of any device whether it's in a business workflow or not.
- Once a selection is made, a list of devices is shown.
- This list is not filtered based on whether the service check exists on that device or not, all devices in the selected grouping are shown.
- From the list of devices, select the devices that you would like included in the service check deletion process by clicking the box to the left of the device name (click the box in the column header to select all devices in the list, if desired).
- The list may sorted by any column, and the search box at the top right may be used to filter the list in real time. The filter uses basic text matching on all columns (returning partial matches as a term is entered).
- If you select a device that does not have the service check on it that you wish to delete, it will simply be ignored during the deletion process. It is safe to simply select all devices in the list, if desired.
- Once all desired devices are checked, select the Submit button below the device table.
- The list of devices on which the delete process will be performed is displayed for confirmation. (Note that there may be multiple service checks of the same type on each device, and that this list displays service check descriptions (which are user configured) rather than the actual name of the service checks as selected in step 4 - i.e., "PING" versus "Ping this host")
- Review the list and again select the devices with the service checks that you wish to be included in the deletion process.
- Again, the list may be sorted by any column, and the search box at the top right may be used to filter the list.
- If you find that you have made a mistake, or would like to change the device selection, select the Filter button at the top of the page to reconfigure the filter.
- Once your final selection is made, select the Delete Checks button to perform the deletion process.
- A message appears indicating the success/failure of the process.
After performing this process, it is a good idea to also perform a discovery poll on the affected devices.
If a deleted service check re-appears on a device after a discovery poll, it means that that service check is being automatically added by a device template, and must be addressed in your device template strategy.
