Article summary

This guide provides the basic steps necessary to get your Netreo SaaS tenant up and running quickly with basic monitoring service. At that point, Netreo will begin detecting and monitoring your network and WAN devices and any configured cloud services.

SaaS Tenant Setup

Before beginning, you will need the username and password for your SaaS tenant (provided to you by Netreo).

  1. Using a supported web browser, go to https://www.netreo.cloud.
  2. At the Netreo log in screen, log in using the credentials provided to you.
    • (Remember to append the domain you provided to Netreo when you purchased your SaaS tenant to your username - e.g., username@pm.netreo.com.)
  3. Complete the Netreo Cloud Initialization Wizard by:
    1. Providing a default contact for alert notifications.
    2. Entering credentials for the devices and cloud resources you want to monitor. (Add credentials by ticking the checkbox next to the name of the resource type you wish to add to open its options.)
    3. Entering a name and subnet for the network site in which your service engine appliance will be deployed.
      • All devices discovered in this subnet will be organized under this site name in Netreo. Additional sites and subnets may be added now, if desired, by clicking the plus button (+) icon, but may also be added later.
    4. Select Initialize Now.
      • Cloud-based services and resources will shortly begin appearing as managed devices. Network devices will not appear until after a service engine appliance has been deployed within your network environment.
  4. You are now taken to the Create Service Engine page.
    1. Enter a name to identify the new service engine and select Save.
    2. From the pop-up dialog that appears, select the download link for the service engine virtual appliance type you would like to deploy.
    3. Once your download has begun, select Okay. The appliance will continue to download in the background.
  5. You are now taken to the Service Engine Administration page.
    1. Copy the API key provided in the message at the top of the page. You will not see this API key again. Be sure to copy it before leaving this page.
    2. Please store your API key (along with the name of your service engine) somewhere safe for future use.
  6. You must now deploy the downloaded service engine virtual appliance within your network environment in accordance with the instructions below.
    • If you do not intend to monitor devices within your own network environment (that is, you will only monitor cloud-based resources), you may now navigate away from the Service Engine Administration page or log out, if desired. If you wish to add a service engine to Netreo later, you may do so at any time (see the Adding Additional Service Engines section below).

After completing the steps in this section, your Netreo SaaS tenant will begin adding and automatically monitoring any cloud-based resources it discovers. But, remember, no devices from your own network can be discovered until the downloaded service engine virtual appliance is deployed within your network environment using the steps below.

Initial SaaS Service Engine Deployment

Firewall Rules
When deploying a service engine for use with a Netreo SaaS tenant, the deployed virtual appliance must be able to communicate outbound to the internet on port TCP/443.
Virtual Appliance IP Address
The appliance installs with a default private IP address of 192.168.252.2 assigned to it. If you wish to use a different IP, you may choose to change it either from the VM console when deploying the appliance, or from within the setup wizard when first logging in to the appliance.
  1. Deploy the service engine virtual appliance (downloaded in the SaaS Tenant Setup section) above using the virtual environment of your choice by following the instructions in Virtualization Options for On-premise Netreo Deployment.
    • Once the VM is running, do not proceed to the setup wizard. Return to these instructions.
  2. Go to the deployed appliance by entering "https://ip.address/fw/index.php?r=site/login" into the address bar of your browser (replace ip.address with the IP address of your service engine), and log in using the default username/password: administrator/administrator.
    • Note: There is a known issue with sessions on service engines that may cause "Error (#2)." If you see this error, refresh your browser and the issue should resolve itself.
  3. On the options screen that appears, select Set up as Remote Collector/Poller.
  4. Complete the steps in the Create Remote Collector Wizard by:
    1. Entering your desired network configuration and select Save and Continue.
      • You may choose to change the IP address of the virtual appliance in this step, if desired.
      • If you chose to configure the IP address via the console while deploying the appliance, this information will be pre-filled.
      • It is recommended to include an NTP server address to ensure that the appliance server time is kept correct.
    2. Updating the product if a new version is available.
    3. Selecting Cloud from the drop-down menu and entering your API key (supplied during SaaS Tenant Setup above). (Do not fill in the IP ADDRESS field.)
      • The deployed service engine appliance immediately communicates with your Netreo SaaS tenant and automatically associates the appliance with the service engine you created in the SaaS Tenant Setup section above.
    4. Select Create.
  5. Your are then taken to the System Diagnostics page of the service engine appliance. If you wish, you may test the appliance's connection to your SaaS tenant by selecting Test Connection to Netreo Cloud. If no errors are reported, your connection is working properly.
  6. You may now log out of the service engine appliance.

The service engine will begin discovering the devices in your network environment and report them to your SaaS tenant. It will likely take at least 15 minutes before network devices begin appearing in your SaaS tenant for monitoring.

Remember that if you changed the service engine appliance IP address in the setup wizard, you will need to use the new address if you wish to log back in to the appliance.

Adding Additional Service Engines

If you intend to deploy additional service engines beyond the initial service engine, follow the steps below.

It is recommended that you create and deploy one service engine at a time to ensure using the correct API key for the service engine appliance being deployed.

  1. Using a supported web browser, go to https://www.netreo.cloud.
  2. Log in to your Netreo SaaS tenant as a user with the SuperAdmin access level.
  3. Go to the main menu and select Administration > System > Service Engines to open the Service Engine Administration page.
  4. In the Stand Alone Service Engines section, select the plus button (+).
  5. You are then taken to the Create Service Engine Page.
    1. Enter a name to identify your service engine and select Save.
    2. From the pop-up dialog that appears, select the download link for the service engine virtual appliance type you would like to deploy.
    3. Once your download has begun, select Okay. The appliance will continue to download in the background.
  6. You are now taken to the Service Engine Administration page.
    1. Copy the API key provided in the message at the top of the page. You will not see this API key again. Be sure to copy it before leaving this page.
    2. Please store your API key (along with the name of your service engine) somewhere safe for future use.
  7. You must now deploy the downloaded service engine virtual appliance in your network environment in accordance with the instructions in Initial SaaS Service Engine Deployment above.
