Article Summary

Description

The remote SSH shell feature allows Netreo users logged in with an access level of Power User and above to remotely execute commands directly on a managed device. Any commands that can be run on the device normally can be run from the shell. (This feature requires the user to be logged in using https, or it will not work and you will receive an "access forbidden" error.)

The remote SSH shell is part of Netreo's Config Manager, and so will work on any managed device that is currently having its configuration files managed by Netreo, and to which your Netreo deployment has a direct connection (i.e., is not managed by a service engine).

To access the shell, navigate to the Device Dashboard of the device you would like to SSH into, and in the device menu select Reports > SSH. The shell console page will open and you will automatically be connected to the device. The session has an automatic 3-minute timeout, but you can end your session immediately using the end session button at the bottom of the page.

Direct connection required
Netreo's remote SSH shell feature is not available to managed devices assigned to a service engine, and the "SSH" menu option will not appear on the Device Dashboard for those devices. A direct connection is required between Netreo and the device for the menu option to appear. This means that this feature is not available for Netreo SaaS deployments.

While on the shell console page, you can click the console session history button at the bottom of the page to get a complete history of any commands anyone has run on that device. The history can be filtered by device and/or username.

Users with the SuperAdmin access level may configure the use and automatic login of the remote shell on Netreo's System Preferences page.
