Traffic Summary (Dashboard Widget)

Description

The Traffic Summary widget summarizes the details of the highest volume traffic in your monitored network. These details are broken out into three panels (each covering a period of the previous 2-hours):

• Top Conversations - Shows volume of traffic (in bytes) between sources and destinations along with the applications that generated them and the total volume for each conversation.
• Top Exporters - Shows devices producing the highest volumes of traffic along with the total volume (in bytes) for each device.
• Top Applications - Shows applications producing the highest volumes of trafficalong with the percentage of total traffic volume that each has contributed.

Display Mode

This widget has only a single display mode that will stretch horizontally to fill the space provided by the chosen dashboard layout.

Components

Top Conversations Table

This tableshows the top ten highest volume single conversations over the previous 2 hours. Each row in the table represents a single conversation between a source and a destination.

For each conversation, the TRAFFIC BETWEEN column shows the source that initiated the conversation (on the left), the volume of traffic (in bytes) in each direction (the arrow indicates traffic flow direction) and the destination (on the right). Hover your mouse over a source or destination to see its IP address. Clicking on a source or destination opens the appropriate Device Dashboard. Clicking on a traffic flow opens a graph of that flow. There are several custom options to sort the table by this column.

The APPLICATION column shows the application responsible for generating the traffic between the source and destination. The applications in this column should correspond to the applications listed in the Top Applications graph detailed below. The table may be sorted by this column.

The TOTAL VOLUME column shows the total traffic volume (in bytes) for that single conversation. The table may be sorted by this column.

Top Exporters Graph

This simple bar graph shows the top 10 devices producing the highest volume of traffic (in bytes) on your network over the previous 2 hours.

Each device is shownon the left side of the graph, along with the site to which it belongs. Clicking a device name opens its Device Dashboard. Clicking a site name opens its Site Dashboard.

Hover your mouse over a bar to see its exact traffic volume.

Top Applications Graph and Table

This bar graph and table show the top 10 applications producing the highest percentage of the total traffic volume on your network over the previous 2 hours.

Clicking on the name of an application in either the graph or table opens a Conversation Report for that application.

Hover your mouse over a bar to see its exact traffic volume percentage.

The table may be sorted by application name or total volume.

Configuration

The Traffic Summary widget is added to a dashboard on the Customize Dashboards page (Administration > Users > Custom Dashboards).

Only one widget of this type may be added to a dashboard.

When adding the Traffic Summary widget to a dashboard, there are several options that need to be configured before the widget can be used. After adding the widget to a dashboard, save the dashboard and then select the gear icon on the widget to open the options pop-up dialog.

The fields and their descriptions are outlined below.

• TOP 10 CONVERSATIONS
  Switch to ON to show the Top Conversations table.
• TOP 10 EXPORTERS
  Switch to ON to show the Top Exporters graph.
• TOP 10 APPLICATIONS
  Switch to ON to show the Top Applications graph and table.

After adding the widget and saving your options, remember to save the dashboard for its display to be updated.
