Description

Netreo includes many prebuilt dashboards through which it displays information. You can also create your own custom dashboards, allowing role-specific displays that each provide different information relevant to their intended user (management, engineering, command center, etc.).

There are two different basic types of dashboards that can be created in Netreo:

Generic Dashboards

Generic dashboards display a wide variety of data. They may contain dashboard widgets of any type.

Generic dashboards are always found in either the Quick Views menu on the main menu, or on the Other Dashboards page (Quick Views > Other Dashboards). The location in which a generic dashboard appears is configured in the "Generic Dashboards" table on the Customize Dashboards page (Administration > Users > Custom Dashboards).

Generic dashboards may also be assigned to individual users as their “home” dashboard, making it the dashboard they first see when logging in to Netreo (in place of the Consolidated dashboard) and where they will return when the home icon is selected. Custom generic dashboards may be assigned to users by Netreo administrators on the User Administration page (Administration > Users > Add/Edit Web Users). Users may assign custom generic dashboards to themselves in the Display Options section of the User Preferences page.

The default home dashboard, the Consolidated dashboard, is itself a custom generic dashboard, as are many of the pre-built dashboards in Netreo. Any of the pre-built dashboards that appear on the Customize Dashboards page may be edited as desired. However, be aware that there is no reset button for these dashboards to return to their original configuration.

Slide View

Any generic dashboard can be viewed in “slide-view mode” by clicking the slide view option in the top right of the dashboard.

When in slide view mode, the dashboard repeatedly scrolls through each widget it contains, with a several second pause between each. Controls at the top of the dashboard provide interactive control of the slide-view, allowing the display to be paused and manually scrolled through in either direction.

When dashboard widgets are displayed in slide-view mode, they expand to their maximum allowable size.

Device Group Dashboards

Device group dashboards display data about device groups. These dashboards may only use dashboard widgets specific to the type of device group (category, site, business workflow) for which they are built.

When a device group is displayed somewhere in Netreo, the name of the group is typically a link item that opens the device group dashboard for that group when selected.

Each device group type has a prebuilt default dashboard for displaying information about that group type. Categories use the "Category (Default)" dashboard, sites use the "Site (Default)" dashboard, and business workflows use the "Business Workflow (Default)" dashboard. All of the default dashboards are actually custom dashboards themselves. So, if you require different information to be displayed for a device group type, you may edit any of the default dashboards to suit your needs. (Note: If you edit any of the default dashboards, there is no way to reset back to the original configuration once the changes have been saved.)

If you require different information to be displayed for any given individual device group, you may create a new custom dashboard (of the appropriate device group type) and assign that dashboard directly to that device group. Netreo will then display that group using the new custom dashboard instead. This is useful for allowing different device groups of the same type to have different views into their data. For example, the dashboard for one business workflow could have an entirely different layout and show different information than the dashboard for another business workflow. Or, you might create a custom site dashboard for large sites and another one for small sites, an assign them respectively.

See the articles for categories, sites and business workflows for more information on the device group dashboards for each specific group type.

How Custom Dashboards Work

Custom dashboards are managed on the Customize Dashboards page (Administration > Users > Custom Dashboards). Only users with the Admin or SuperAdmin access level may create and manage custom dashboards.

Layout

Custom dashboards are arranged into columns, within which dashboard widgets are stacked.

There are four column layout styles available for custom dashboards:

  • Full width - A single column extending the full width of the page.
  • Narrow/wide/narrow - A wide center column, with two narrow columns on either side.
  • Narrow/wide - A wide column on the right, a narrow column on the left.
  • 50/50 - Two equally wide columns.

Dashboard Widgets

Custom dashboards are made up of individual dashboard widgets. Each widget provides a specific type of information, and many include configuration settings to fine tune what information is shown.

A widget's display automatically adapts to the layout of the dashboard within which it is contained. This means that any given widget may display more or less information depending on the layout chosen for the dashboard.
